XIBELANI

Xibelani / Profile

Nkarhi waku china nyana.

Xibelani is a traditional knee-length pleated skirt and indigenous dance of Tsonga women from Limpopo and Mpumalanga — the word translates to hitting to the rhythm, representing both the voluminous vibrant skirt and the dynamic hip-shaking dance style.

Xibelani Traditional Attire

We don't dress for attention. We dress for rhythm.

01

The skirt is not decoration. It is posture, celebration, movement, and ancestral memory.

02

Every piece must feel vibrant from far away and carry cultural meaning up close.

03

We craft attire for women who celebrate through dance, not through words.

Garment logic / Tsonga energy

Howwemove.

Xibelani works from tradition. We gather fabric tightly at the waist until only volume, colour, rhythm, and celebration remain.

The result is not quiet fashion. It is controlled cultural language — attire that feels ceremonial, wearable, and deeply rooted in Tsonga heritage.

01

Rhythm before decoration.

The dance must speak first. Colour and beadwork only support the motion.

02

Volume before trend.

Gathered fabric and tiered structure matter more than seasonal fashion.

03

Motion before stillness.

A xibelani should amplify the hips before it asks to be admired standing still.

04

Heritage before noise.

We build celebration through tradition, not visual overload.

XIBELANI

A traditional attire house focused on knee-length pleated skirts, indigenous dance garments, and the vibrant cultural identity of Tsonga women.

Made from salempur or wool, gathered tightly at the waist to create a full voluminous shape — designed to accentuate the rapid, rhythmic movement of the dancer's hips.
